(::edit:: WOAH, Mainstay is really good… www.purevolume.com/mainstayrock. Away From You, Hang On, Take Away… some faves)

rid me of the notion
that i ever had any rights
cleanse me of the motives
that come in such a clever disguise
ruin my agenda
holy as it never was

Cause it’s all from your hand
and there’s nothing that’s mine
and all that you give
you’re free to take away

I’m just trying to hold on
clinging to the dream inside
I was only selfish,
and you were only part of my life

every breath
every word
there isn’t one
thing i deserve
all that i am

is yours

“Fight the Lord’s battles.”
1 Samuel 18:17

The sacramental host of God’s elect is warring still on earth, Jesus Christ being the Captain of their salvation. He has said, “Lo! I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.” Hark to the shouts of war! Now let the people of God stand fast in their ranks, and let no man’s heart fail him. …The Saviour is, by his Spirit, still on earth; let this cheer us. He is ever in the midst of the fight, and therefore the battle is not doubtful. And as the conflict rages, what a sweet satisfaction it is to know that the Lord Jesus, in his office as our great Intercessor, is prevalently pleading for his people! O anxious gazer, look not so much at the battle below, for there thou shalt be enshrouded in smoke, and amazed with garments rolled in blood; but lift thine eyes yonder where the Saviour lives and pleads, for while he intercedes, the cause of God is safe. Let us fight as if it all depended upon us, but let us look up and know that all depends upon him.

Now, by the lilies of Christian purity, and by the roses of the Saviour’s atonement… we charge you who are lovers of Jesus, to do valiantly in the Holy War, for truth and righteousness, for the kingdom and crown jewels of your Master. Onward! “for the battle is not yours but God’s.”

Aragorn’s retelling of Beren and Luthien… which mirrors him and Arwen

“The leaves were long, the grass was green,
The hemlock-umbels tall and fair,
And in the glade a light was seen
Of stars in shadow shimmering.
Tinuviel was dancing there
To music of a pipe unseen,
And light of stars was in her hair,
And in her raiment glimmering.

There Beren came from mountains cold.
And lost he wandered under leaves,
And where the Elven-river rolled
He walked alone and sorrowing.
He peered between the hemlock-leaves
And saw in wonder flowers of gold
Upon her mantle and her sleeves,
And her hair like shadow following.

Enchantment healed his weary feet
That over hills were doomed to roam;
And forth he hastened, strong and fleet,
And grasped at moonbeams glistening.
Through woven woods in Elvenhome
She lightly fled on dancing feet,
And left him lonely still to roam
In the silent forest listening.

He heard there oft the flying sound
Of feet as light as linden-leaves,
Or music welling underground,
In hidden hollows quavering.
Now withered lay the hemlock-sheaves,
And one by one with sighing sound
Whispering fell the beachen leaves
In wintry woodland wavering.

He sought her ever, wandering far
Where leaves of years were thickly strewn,
By light of moon and ray of star
In frosty heavens shivering.
Her mantle glinted in the moon,
As on a hill-top high and far
She danced, and at her feet was strewn
A mist of silver quivering.

When winter passed, she came again,
And her song released the sudden spring,
Like rising lark, and falling rain,
And melting water bubbling.
He saw the elven-flowers spring
About her feet, and healed again
He longed by her to dance and sing
Upon the grass untroubling.

Again she fled, but swift he came,
Tinuviel! Tinuviel!
He called her by her elvish name;
And there she halted listening.
One moment stood she, and a spell
His voice laid on her: Beren came,
And doom fell on Tinuviel
That in his arms lay glistening.

As Beren looked into her eyes
Within the shadows of her hair,
The trembling starlight of the skies
He saw there mirrored shimmering.
Tinuviel the elven-fair,
Immortal maiden elven-wise,
About him cast her shadowy hair
And arms like silver glimmering.

Long was the way that fate them bore,
O’er stony mountains cold and grey,
Through halls of iron and darkling door,
And woods of nightshade morrowless.
The Sundering Seas between them lay,
And yet at last they met once more,
And long ago they passed away
In the forest singing sorrowless.”

I’ve loved Tolkien ever since i read Lord of the Rings at 10 years old.

i’m [not] alright

Filed under: encouragement, scripture, songs — shadowsong @ 6:51 pm

If weakness is a wound
That no one wants to speak of
Then ‘kool’ is just how far we have to fall

For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing

And I am not amused:
I only want to be loved
But I feel safe behind the firewall

Thus says the LORD: ‘Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength

Can I lose my need to impress?
If you want the truth,
I need to confess

The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately sick

I’m not alright
I’m broken inside, broken inside
And all I go through, it leads me to You
It leads me to You

A glorious throne set on high from the beginning is the place of our sanctuary

Burn away the pride
Bring me to my weakness
Till everything to hide behind is gone

Therefore I will beast all the more gladly in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For when I am weak, then I am strong

And when I’m open wide,
with nothing left to cling to
Only You are there to lead me on

I have set the Lord always before me;

Cause honestly, I’m not that strong

because He is at my right hand I shall not be shaken

I’m not alright
I’m broken inside, broken inside
And all I go through, it leads me to You
It leads me to You

Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness.
I call to you when my heart is faint. Lead me to the rock that is higher than I, for you have been my refuge

And now I’m moved, and now I’m moved, and now I’m moved
…closer to you…

It is good for me that I was afflicted, that I might learn your statutes

I’m not alright,
I’m broken inside, broken inside
Oh, broken inside, broken inside

My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me

And all I go through, it leads me to You
It leads me to You

Shout for joy to God, all the earth! Sing the glory of his name; give him glorious praise! You have tried us as silver is tried…you laid a crushing burden on our backs. Yet you have brought us out to a place of abundance. Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will tell you what He has done for my soul

…I’m not alright…

Therefore I have uttered what I did not understand

:That’s why I need you:

“Yup, you might offend somebody. You know, like the *BLEEP*s and the *BLEEP*s and the atheists!”
“Gotta be politically correct…”
“C’mon guys, it’s not that hard, just say ‘I’m dreaming of a *BLEEP* Holiday.”
“You have to say ‘Caucasian’
“So i gotta say: ‘I’m dreaming of a Caucasian Holiday?!?!!?”
“aaw this is just stupid……”
